What Next?
What do I want to be? I wondered as I sat on the couch
scrolling through my social feeds. Freshly done with my final exams of
engineering, I had been drowning in queries from irrelative sources about my
future. And if that wasn’t brimming the preasure, stumbling upon “got placed
in” and “scored” posts of acquaintances added on to it. After a technical
bachelor’s degree, there are two mainstream but safe as rock ways to be, “study
for MBA or GATE” or “work for a reputed MNC”. Just like directions are blocked
after 12th so as to flee the herd towards a tech degree, norms imply to a
graduate in the same way. Of course some are scattered into primary but
safeguarded system of government jobs (not so easy to get through). All this
for what? Success is the keyword you’re looking for.
You will get there if you work hard and be patient, at least that’s what I’ve heard but how long would that be? Ours is an age of smart players and shorter lives, risks and rebels, instinctive and reflective people. A safe life is decent, upright and secure and in perfect proportions for some. But creation is what made the world what it is today and I bet none of the revolutionaries from any of the fields had a risk-free existence. So what if I choose not to do what I was expected to do to for a living (and I mean it in respectable ways)? What if I walk on a different path and land way ahead? What if? I thought, as I shut my laptop and stood up for a snack. Food has always been the ultimate solution. Always.
